Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Department of Political Science at the University of South Carolina seeks applications for a full-time, nine-month Professor of Practice position in Public Administration, to begin August 16, 2024. The appointee will develop and teach courses for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program and possibly undergraduate levels. The ability to teach courses in human resource management is a plus. In coordination with the MPA Program Director, the appointee will run the MPA internship program, develop and implement an MPA student recruitment strategy, collect and manage data to improve program performance, manage program compliance with NASPAA accreditation standards, and participate in day-to-day program management. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in public administration or a related field, plus multiple years of relevant experience consistent with academic policy for faculty rank, by the start date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek candidates who will bring substantial practical experience in local, state, and/or federal government administration to the position. The application should detail the nature of that experience and how the candidate believes the experience can contribute to (1) the education of future public affairs professionals, and (2) the management/administration within the MPA program.
