Research Instructor

The Department of Orthopedics is seeking an experienced Research Instructor who will be able to work independently to manage projects aimed at development of therapies for osteoarthritis and bone fracture healing, spanning from basic science studies in the wet lab, to animal models, to clinical trials. This person will be under the supervisor of Michael Zuscik, PhD and will supervise one Professional Research Assistant.

Examples of Work Performed
- Planning and running a clinical trial, from development of regulatory documents, to execution of recruitment and data collection
- Development of a program of preclinical research (animal models-based) around intermittent fasting, gut microbiome and fracture healing/osteoarthritis
- Management of rodent and other animal colonies as needed
- Performance of surgical procedures in animal models of cartilage or joint injury/repair
- Performing various assays including Western blots, qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISAs, cell culture, histological staining/immunostaining, imaging and data analysis
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $65,000 - $75,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Interest in therapy development for osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions
- Organizational, independence and leadership skills
- Communication skills and evidence of writing ability based on publication track record
- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills in bench science (in vitro, in vivo)
- Decision making ability in experimental design and execution
- Grant writing skills and familiarity with preparing results for publication
Minimum Requirements
- PhD or MD degree in a biological sciences field
- 3 years of postdoctoral experience post-completion of the terminal degree
- Evidence of publication and presentation track record from work on previous projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in skeletal biology and/or orthopedic research
- Previous activity studying osteoarthritis
- Bioinformatics experience in the analysis of RNAseq data
