The Auraria Library has an opening for a full time Faculty (non-tenure track, instructor)  Access and Public Services Department Head position.

Located in downtown Denver, Colorado, the Auraria Campus is home to three institutions of higher education – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver – the latter two are Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The Auraria Library serves the campus’ over 45,000 students, including many first-generation, underrepresented, and non-traditional students, and sees more than 750,000 visits a year. Overview  

The Access and Public Services, Department Head position provides leadership and guidance for a variety of services including: circulation, course reserves, consortial resource sharing, media collections, accessibility services, learning commons partnerships located in the Library, and the Library’s integrated public service points where customers get assistance with general information needs, first level of reference, and technology. This non-tenure track senior instructor position requires a strong commitment to public services coupled with a vision for using emerging technologies and evidence-based decision practices to develop, implement, and assess services.  

The Access and Public Services Department consists of seven full-time employees and twelve to fifteen student employees. This position will directly supervise five full-time employees.  

This position serves on the Library Shared Leadership Team to contribute to the development and implementation of the Library’s vision and goals. 

As a Library faculty member, the librarian participates on Library and campus-wide committees and in CU Denver faculty governance.  This position engages in fulfilling the research and educational missions of the Auraria Library and the three institutions on the Auraria Campus – the University of Colorado Denver, the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. This position is in the Education and Public Services Division of the Library and reports to the Education and Public Services, Associate Director.

Job Duties

Access Services 

  • Leads and promotes the operations of the Library’s integrated service points that provide desk and roving assistance for first level of reference, accessibility services, library technology, general/directional questions, circulation, course reserves, and other transactions.   
  • Explores and implements ongoing technological and programmatic advances in access and public services.  
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the use of evidence-based decision making to determine best practices and cutting-edge services.  
  • Captures, analyzes, and assesses transactional and performance metrics and data to determine trends and develop strategies to improve the library experience for students, faculty, and staff.  
  • Analyzes and manages workflows and processes to improve delivery, speed, effectiveness, and accuracy of resource sharing.  
  • Oversees the Library's circulation system (Sierra, Innovative Interfaces).  
  • Supervises and evaluates two full-time employees. 
  • Actively promotes an environment of continual improvement by engaging in ongoing learning, information sharing, and professional development as a member of the Auraria Library learning organization.   

Liaison Responsibilities 

  • Liaises with campus partners participating in the Library’s Knowledge Market, currently including research, writing and tutoring services, as well as envisioning future partnerships.  
  • Collaborates to maximize effective use of Library resources, including the Library’s electronic/print collections, digital signage, and interactive learning spaces.  
  • Develops and implements strategies for improving the functionality of course reserves by partnering with teaching faculty, educational technology centers, Education and Outreach Services, Department Head, and Library liaisons.  
  • Works with consortium partners, such as CLIC, Colorado Alliance, and Prospector to ensure effective operations.  
  • Participates in Library and departmental strategic planning.

  • Supervise full-time employees. 

Other 

  • Collaborates with the Head of Researcher Support Services, Head of Education and Outreach Services, Head of Information Technology and Web Services, Head of Collections Strategies, and Head of Discovery and Metadata to plan, develop, and implement cross-departmental public services with the aim of excellent over-all user experience. 
  • Collaborates with other library units and teams to develop services as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Participates on Library and campus-wide committees and CU Denver faculty governance.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $70,000 to $73,500.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications   

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program.  
  • Two years of relevant professional experience in access and public services, reference, circulation (including an integrated library system), interlibrary loan, document delivery, and/or course reserves.  
  • Two years of supervisory experience.   

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Experience working in a tr-institutional setting
  • Experience in an academic library environment in a variety of access and public services including: reference, circulation including an integrated library system (such as Innovative), and course reserves.  
  • Assessment experience in the access and public services areas including collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.  
  • Demonstrated experience capitalizing on growth opportunities. 
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including international scholars, faculty, and students.
