Summary of Job Duties:

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock accepts applications for a full-time 12-month instructor. This is a non-tenure-track position. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree in TESOL or related area (e.g., TEFL, ESL, SLA, etc.). Master's degrees in other areas may be considered for applicants with prior English language education experience; however, employees must begin enrollment within 18 months in courses that would typically lead to a TESOL endorsement in the state of Arkansas;

  • Minimum of 1 year of English language education experience or 2 years related education experience;

  • Excellent oral and written communication in English.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience teaching, studying, and/or living abroad.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach all 3 levels (Foundations, Intermediate, Pre-University/TOEFL) of non-credit intensive English courses for approximately 20 instructional hours per week, as well as possibly teaching in specialized ESP courses;

  • Deliver well-prepared lessons and assessments aligned with course objectives using a variety of theoretically grounded teaching approaches and techniques to meet student needs;

  • Maintain related administrative paperwork such as gradebooks, attendance records, syllabi, etc.;

  • Participate in department-support duties, such as student orientation, registration, testing, cultural celebrations, and student social events;

  • Participate in ongoing professional development;

  • Some program-related administrative duties as assigned.

  • Experience with a variety of instructional technologies and a willingness to learn new technologies.
