The School of Accounting (SOA) is one of five academic units (finance, marketing, management, and operations and business analysis being the other four) that make up the Lundquist College of Business (Lundquist), which is one of nine colleges and schools within the University of Oregon (UO).

Engagement with members of the accounting profession shapes our school. In accordance with our mission, we work to engage with accounting professionals regularly, which often translates to updates in our curriculum and programming. Through our advisory board, the Accounting Circle, and memberships in professional organizations such as the Oregon Society of CPAs, our faculty have frequent interactions with outside constituents working in the accounting profession, which provide opportunities for revisions to courses to better prepare our students. The School of Accounting at the Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon, is actively searching for a dedicated career faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Senior Instructor I. The successful candidate will contribute to our teaching excellence and will serve as the Director of the Masters of Accounting (MAcc) program

Commencement of employment is anticipated as early as the fall term (September 2024) or no later than the winter term (January 2025). This is a 9-month annual instructional contract with potential opportunities during the summer. The role of the director would be for an initial 3-year term, renewable upon mutual agreement.

If you join our faculty, you will deliver up to six (6) 10-week accounting courses, representing 60% of this role, where you will foster an engaging and innovative learning environment at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels. The balance of this position, 40%, is comprised of service in the role of MAcc Director.

As the MAcc Director, you will collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Director of the School of Accounting, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and the Executive Director of Lundquist Admissions. You will be an integral part of recruitment efforts and will lead efforts to advise and support MAcc students throughout their academic journey.

You will directly contribute to, review, and oversee administrative and strategic initiatives including:
• oversight of the MAcc program, including admissions, curriculum review, and coordination of program events;
• working with Lundquist Advising to guide students’ course selection and collaborate with Mohr Career Services for student placement in jobs and internships;
• fundraising and donor relations;
• budget management;
• supervision of MAcc Graduate Employees; and
• fostering relationships with accounting firms and professionals.

To qualify for the rank of Instructor:
• Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
• One (1) year of academic teaching experience in higher education or equivalent (such as designing and implementing training, short courses, or workshops).
• Experience with student services or the equivalent (such as assisting with recruitment/admissions, overseeing student clubs).

To qualify for the rank of Senior Instructor I, successful candidates must meet all the requirements of the Instructor rank plus six years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.

• Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills are required.
• Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

• PhD in Accounting.
• Experience in managing a program serving academic and business practitioners in accounting and/or finance.
• Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
