The School of Accounting (SOA) is one of five academic units (finance, marketing, management, and operations and business analysis being the other four) that make up the Lundquist College of Business (Lundquist), which is one of nine colleges and schools within the University of Oregon (UO).

Engagement with members of the accounting profession shapes our school. In accordance with our mission, we work to engage with accounting professionals regularly, which often translates to updates in our curriculum and programming. Through our advisory board, the Accounting Circle, and memberships in professional organizations such as the Oregon Society of CPAs, our faculty have frequent interactions with outside constituents working in the accounting profession, which provide opportunities for revisions to courses to better prepare our students. The School of Accounting, Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon is seeking a career faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Senior Instructor I to teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as well as serve an initial 3-year term (renewable) as Director of the Masters of Accounting (MAcc) program. Employment may begin as early as spring term (March 2024), or no later than September 16, 2024. This is a 9-month instructional contract. Summer opportunities may be available.

This position will teach up to six (6) 10-week accounting courses at either the graduate or undergraduate level (60%) with the balance of the position (40%) being service (e.g., as the director). Course load to be adjusted based on additional scholarship and/or instructional duties assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs.

As the Director of the MAcc program, the role works closely with the Director of the School of Accounting, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Executive Director of Lundquist Admissions, and other key stakeholders to recruit, advise, and support students as they complete their MAcc degree. Typical duties include but are not limited to meeting with prospective students, working with Lundquist Admissions to admit students, working with Advising to guide students’ course selection, reviewing MAcc program curriculum, overseeing MAcc events (e.g., orientation, year-end banquet), working with Mohr Career Services on placement of students in jobs and internships, working with the School on fundraising and donor relations, recruitment and oversight of the MAcc Graduate Employees, management of the budget, and engagement with accounting firms and professionals.

To qualify for the rank of Instructor:
• Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
• One (1) year of academic teaching experience in higher education or equivalent (such as designing and implementing training, short courses, or workshops).
• Experience with student services or the equivalent (such as assisting with recruitment/admissions, overseeing student clubs).

To qualify for the rank of Senior Instructor I, successful candidates must meet all the requirements of the Instructor rank plus six years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.

• Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills are required.
• Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

• PhD in Accounting.
• Experience in managing a program serving academic and business practitioners in accounting and/or finance.
• Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
