Job Summary
The Department of Food Science & Technology invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term-by-term basis for the 2024-2025 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Head.
The College of Agricultural Sciences faculty are committed to enhancing student success by engaging students in quality academic, research, internships, global studies, and other experiential learning opportunities. Key Responsibilities
100% Teaching
Prepare curriculum, teach and administer Food Science undergraduate and graduate courses in the appropriate disciplinary specialty based on department need.
Courses may be designed and delivered collaboratively with current FST instructors and curriculum committees. Course delivery may require partnership with Ecampus instructional designers, training, and multimedia professionals to create well-designed, effective learning experiences for students.
Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating in-person or online classroom discussions, assessing student performance, participate in IFT program assessment for select courses, supervising in-class and laboratory activities, providing leadership and direction for graduate teaching assistants, and creating an inclusive classroom (e.g. mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, fostering affirming classroom interactions across difference, challenging structural/cultural barriers that limit movement towards social equity in education and practice).
Other instructional assignments are at the discretion of the Department Head.
What You Will Need
MS degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Food Production, Fermentation Science, Life sciences, Engineering, Ecology or related field.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences verbally and in writing.
Evident commitment to educational equity.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
This position may be designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
Prior experience teaching at the college or university level.
Prior experience delivering in-person and Ecampus courses.
PACE or short course development and delivery experience.
Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved audiences.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
In-person delivery will be required for on-campus course. Classroom location will be determined by the OSU schedule desk. Lab sections will be scheduled in Wiegand Hall.
Work location for delivery of Ecampus, remote, or PACE course will be off campus from home office. Travel to campus may be needed for collaborative work. Flexible work schedule.
