Position Summary
Austin Peay State University seeks to hire a temporary Instructor of Philosophy and Religion. This is a three-year (renewable) non-tenure position that will begin August 1, 2024.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Typically teach one upper-level course in Religious Studies such as Western Religions, Eastern Religions, Ancient Philosophy, or The History of Medieval Philosophy per semester.
-Must teach at least three lower-level courses in Philosophy and Religious Studies such as Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, or World Religions.
-Instructional methods include face-to-face, online, hybrid, and independent instruction.
-Will be evaluated for teaching effectiveness, professional growth and activities, and non-teaching activities supportive of Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
-Master’s Degree in Religious Studies or Philosophy (or Master’s Degree in related field with 18 hours in Religious Studies)
-Evidence of potential ability in academic assignment and/or scholarly and creative achievement, and/or professional contributions and activities.
-Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity.
-A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in Religious Studies or Philosophy.
