Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
The position, housed within the Department of Natural Resources and Society (NRS) is a nine-month, non-tenure track position. Rank is negotiable based on experience. The instructor will teach in-person courses for undergraduate students that support degree programs in the Department of Natural Resources and Society and College of Natural Resources. The instructor will support coursework within a wide range of natural resource topics, including developing courses in their area of expertise, while assisting in the launch of the new Natural Resource Enterprise Management undergraduate degree. The instructor will teach a total of 20-22 credit hours across the fall and spring semesters. It is expected that the instructor will be experienced with in-person pedagogies and seek professional development opportunities when available. Finally, the instructor will participate in department faculty meetings and outreach activities when appropriate. This position will be responsible for:
  • Developing and delivering new natural resource enterprise management courses to broaden CNR’s portfolio of in-person courses that will support undergraduate students;
  • Instruction of existing natural resources coursework
  • Advising undergraduate students about professional opportunities during and after completion of their academic programs
  • Assisting with student recruitment
  • Assisting the faculty and staff in partnering with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private industry and non-profit organizations, to effectively prepare students for professional positions related to natural resource enterprise management.

Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
  • MS degree in a Natural Resources discipline.
  • Experience teaching business, economics, recreation, political science, sociology, or nonprofit management.
  • Experience using computer software for in-person instruction delivery, course management, and for data management and analysis, including spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD degree in natural resources or related field
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in teaching college-level academic courses and professional workshops
  • Experience developing and delivering courses related to private and nonprofit sector models for natural resource management
  • Skilled in synthesizing and presenting science to students, and to professionals in a timely, effective manner
  • Experience applying natural resource management principles in a professional or “real-world” environment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with teams and with people of diverse backgrounds..
