Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The University of South Carolina Sumter is seeking a full-time Instructor of History (non-tenure track) position to begin August 2024. A Master’s degree in History with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in History required at the time of appointment. Applicants with PhDs encouraged to apply. A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is required. The successful candidate should be able to teach HIST 111 (United States History to 1865) and HIST 112 (United States History Since 1865) in the Columbia/Lexington area for the university’s dual enrollment program. Experience teaching the above-named courses or their equivalent is a plus. The teaching load comprises twelve hours. Student advising and participation on campus committees are expected. Starting salary at least $40,000 per academic year depending on qualifications.
Review of credentials will begin April 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
Required Education and Experience
A Master’s degree in History with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in History required at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate should be able to teach HIST 111 (United States History to 1865) and HIST 112 (United States History Since 1865) in the Columbia/Lexington area for the university’s dual enrollment program.
