Job Description

Position Description: Instructor of English. 9-month position with possibility of annual renewal.  M.A. in English from a regionally accredited university and evidence of teaching excellence required. Experience or preparation in teaching developmental writing. Department Instructors teach General Education courses, primarily on-campus First-Year Writing courses. Standard course load is 4/4. Other duties include department and university service, research, and may include advising of students (70% Teaching; 20% Service; 10% Research)

Minimum Qualifications: M.A. in English or related field from a regionally accredited university and evidence of experience or preparation in teaching first-year writing.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of experience, preparation, or research in developmental writing.

Responsibilities: To teach 12 hours per semester across a range of courses, including First-Year Writing and co-requisite Writing Studio. In addition, candidates will be expected to perform departmental and university service and maintain an active scholarly agenda:

About the Department:  The English Department at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in English with three concentrations: Literature, Teaching, and Writing. Our innovative Master’s program allows students to enroll year-round or summers only, which enables working teachers to complete the degree in only two summers’ residency. The English Department has been an integral part in the university’s international programs, offering our Composition sequence in cross-border programs in China for over ten years.
