The Middlebury College Summer Arabic School is pleased to announce vacancies for a temporary Instructor of Arabic. These in-person positions are available during the summer 2024 session (June 19 - August 17, 2024), located on the Bennington College campus in Bennington, Vermont, USA. Our unique 8-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and leading co-curricular activities with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Arabic.  While at Middlebury, lodging and meals will be provided.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. (DML, ABD, M.A or B.A. with strong experience teaching Arabic to American students in higher education may also be considered).

We are looking for exceptional faculty who have extensive teaching experience in Arabic as a second or foreign language, including teaching aspects of Arab culture and society. The successful candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of success working as a member of an instructional team.  Candidates with a creative, dynamic, and flexible approach with openness for accepting new teaching methods and environments will be an excellent fit in the Arabic School.

A letter of interest, summarizing their teaching philosophy and how they will contribute to the Arabic school;

A current curriculum vitae (CV);

Two letters of recommendation;

All student evaluations from the last academic year;

An original copy of the highest degree earned (translated into English if issued in another language)

The applications will be reviewed beginning January 19, 2024, but the positions will remain open until filled. This position is for the summer of 2024.
