Summary

This position is for an Instructor - Practitioner to assist in the screening, enrolling, educating and documenting on patients of all ages for research studies in genetics. Perform the duties of a Nurse Practitioner conducting clinical research studies in an efficient, safe and timely manner, complying with all applicable institutional and federal regulations. In addition, the Nurse practitioner will take care of patients with genetic disorders who are seen at Texas Children's Hospital and other BCM affiliated hospitals within the context of MHG.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the  investigator in the screening of patients prior to enrollment
  • Assist with the organization and review of  patient medical records to determine study eligibility
  • Obtain informed consent
  • Assist with recruitment in our genetics clinics
  • Coordinate sample acquisition
  • Participate in clinical  research team meetings
  • Prepares and coordinates site visits made by sponsor during the course of study
  • Prepares for the initiation of new clinical research protocols
  • Documents  in patient's electronic medical record
  • Prepares and maintains source documentation for clinical research studies, case report forms and study and regulatory files
  • Coordination of data and data entry into electronic case report forms
  • Conducts studies according to protocol and completes case report forms. 
  • Ensures that clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA, GCP and other regulatory agencies
  • Prepares clinical study IRB applications and implementation 
  • Assist in obtaining blood and other specimens for tests and cultures 

Job Purpose

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.


Job Duties
  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing.
  • Experience Required: None required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
