Job Description

Texas A&M University - Texarkana has launched the Better East Texas initiative, an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. To support this initiative, we are inviting applications for Instructor or Assistant Professor of Social Work. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new academic program intended to provide a positive impact on East Texas. With funding from the 86th Texas Legislature, Texas A&M University-Texarkana is hoping to attract a cadre of excellent faculty who will contribute to the best possible future for our service region.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Teaching across social work curricula, including in generalist and clinical social work classes; curriculum design in alignment with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) 2015/2022 and a student-centered pedagogy.
  • Advise social work majors from our student body and contribute in other ways to the social work program, including the accreditation/reaffirmation and field education processes.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Conduct and publish field specific research to enhance the general body of knowledge in social work. Collaborative research with undergraduate and graduate students is encouraged. 
  • Present research findings and other academic papers at national or professional conferences. 
  • Support and participate in college committees and professional organizations to develop professional partnerships and meet the institution's strategic goals. 
  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. 
  • Support all college initiatives to recruit and retain talented students, faculty, and staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Minimum Qualifications -Instructor Rank

  • MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution
  • Two years post-MSW practice experience.
  • Teaching experience in Social Work education.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with all segments of the student population.

Minimum Qualifications -Assistant Professor Rank

  • Earned DSW or Ph.D. in social work, social welfare, or closely related field and a master’s degree in social work from CSWE accredited institutions.
  • Earned MSW from CSWE accredited institution.
  • At least two years of post-master’s social work practice experience
  • Teaching experience in a social work program
  • Evidence of scholarship and research agenda
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with all segments of the student population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates that are licensed, or license-eligible, as a social worker in Texas, Arkansas, and/or Louisiana. 
  • Record of teaching excellence in social work or related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to or interest in program develop and curriculum development.
  • Experience working with CSWE accreditation.
  • Clinical experience working with children, trauma, or addictions.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
