Job Description


The Department of Neurology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an opening for a fellowship position (Instructor) in the Division of Multiple Sclerosis.

The goal of the MS fellowship is to provide training to neurologists in the care of patients with multiple sclerosis and other related disorders, and to further the mission and vision of the MS Center in Excellence in patient care, research and education.  This will be achieved by participating in the following activities:

  • Evaluate patients in the MS Center for their care.  This activity will be done with the supervision of the faculty at the Center until you are considered capable of independently performing these duties, at which point you may evaluate them independently.

  • Become proficient in reading magnetic resonance imaging studies and other radiological studies for evaluation of our patients.  You may be required to rotate with a neuro-radiologist in the radiology department.

  • Learn to do intrathecal baclofen testing to determine suitability of patients to receive a permanent baclofen pump.

  • Learn to use botulinum toxin in spastic muscle to relieve spasticity in muscles.

  • Learn clinical research and clinical trials and participate as investigator in multi-center clinical trials.   In this regard, as part of your training, it may be necessary to learn fundamentals of bio-statistics and become proficient in meeting the requirements of the Institutional Review Board for protocol submission and consenting patients.

  • Present in Journal Clubs.

  • Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Teach medical students and residents one-on-one or in a lecture-hall setting, and assist Neurology Chief Residents with MS curriculum.

  • Present materials from research at local or national neurology meetings.

Applicants must possess a Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School, Florida Medical License and eligible to take the Board in Neurology and Psychiatry.
