Job Summary


The Instructor of PGA Golf Management will have an initial assignment that will include teaching undergraduate courses, curriculum input on College and University committees and/or initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a full-time instructor in the accredited PGA Golf Management program with a primary focus on facility management and teaching and coaching.
  • Other classes within the PGA/PGM curriculum may be assigned.
  • Contributes to marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts of students in the program. Assist with Internship activities.
  • Reviews and assesses activities located in the PGA Work Experience Portal.
  • Provides individualized golf instruction to students in the program toward progress in passing the PGA Playing Ability Test.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization (Business Administration, Management, Physical Education, Tourism, Sports Psychology, Educational Leadership, Exercise and Sport Science, Retail Management, or Learning Sciences.) from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline.
  • Active PGA membership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in an appropriate area of specialization (Business Administration, Management, Physical Education, Tourism, Sports Psychology, Educational Leadership, Exercise and Sport Science, Retail Management, or Learning Sciences.) from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline.
  • Graduate of a PGA Golf Management University program and familiarity with the most current PGA/PGM university curriculum.
  • Four (4) years of experience in a management-level position (e.g., Head Professional) in the golf industry.  Two (2) years of experience using various golf instructional technologies.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
  • Four (4) years as a Class A Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of America member in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge current with golf industry trends involving golf instructional technologies and golf facility management.
  • Ability to effectively cultivate relationships, communicate, and coordinate activities with community partners and PGA of America representatives.
  • Ability to coordinate with the PGM Player Development Manager to develop instructional programming for HFT 2532 (Player Development)
  • Ability to deliver golf instruction utilizing industry-specific instructional technologies.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of golf club fitting and club performance to improve golf performance.
  • Ability to effectively provide individual and group golf instruction delivery.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality teaching in assigned classes to PGM students in the areas of Teaching & Coaching and Facility Management within the 3.1 PGAPGM curriculum.
  • Ability to complete the required assessment schedule for the University QEP plan each year.
  • Ability to support the process and requirements of the PGA of America’s PGA University accreditation, PGA 3.0 curriculum, and associated PGA Work Experience Activities.
  • Ability to assist with developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives of the PGA Golf Management Program and the Lutgert College of Business.
  • Ability to represent PGM at community-based events supporting PGA Golf Management (PGMSA tournaments, recruitment events, PGA Meetings, and networking events) as assigned by the Program Director; weekend and evening hours may be required.
  • Ability to proctor PGA Golf Management Knowledge Tests and Game seminars.
  • Ability to represent the program at University recruiting events as required.
