Job Description

The Geographic Information Science (GISC) and Geospatial Systems Engineering (GSSE) programs of the Department of Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invite applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Instructor position to begin in April 1, 2024. The programs are among the premier geomatics and GIS undergraduate, and graduate tracks in the United States and reside in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Our degree programs provide students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities required by today's highly competitive and highly paid geospatial job market.  

The Department of Computer Science offers a BS in Geographic Information Science (GISC), which is the only combined geomatics and GIS focused program in the nation that is also accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of ABET. In addition, the department offers an MS in Geospatial Systems Engineering (GSSE), and an interdisciplinary PhD program in Geospatial Computer Science.  The department is an active community of 21 full-time faculty members serving around 600 students. The basic job requirements include:

  • Workload equivalent to teaching 15 semester credit hours each semester comprised of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in GIS or related areas. 
  • Supporting the instructional and assessment needs of BS:GISC  program.
  • Recruiting and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participating in and contributing to department’s service activities.
  • Establishing and managing outreach programs with high school districts to strengthen student pipeline to our programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned master’s degree in Geospatial Science, Geography, Geographical Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching courses in GIS program or Geospatial Science program: e.g., Visualization for GIS, Geospatial Systems.
  • Experience in using geospatial software and hardware.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and teach courses in various delivery formats (In-Person, online)
  • Work experience as a researcher or an analyst in GIS related areas.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in the discipline and establish outreach activities.
