Summary

The Department of English & Foreign Languages at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida invites applications for a full-time Instructor for its First-Year Writing Program.

The First-Year Writing Program offers first-year writing and basic writing courses, including ENG 095: English Composition Strategies, ENG 111: First-Year Composition and Rhetoric, ENG 112: Techniques of Research, ENG 210: Writing about Literature, and SI 016: First-Year Writing Studio.

This Full-Time Instructor in First-Year Writing will teach 12 credits of first-year writing and basic writing courses per semester. All courses are taught in person. Class sizes are small (15-18 students) to allow instructors to provide students with more individualized attention and constructive feedback on students’ writing.

The new instructor will also contribute to the First-Year Writing Studio, a co-requisite basic writing program that follows the Accelerated Learning Program model.

Essential Functions

  • Teach 12 credits per semester (Fall and Spring) in the First-Year Writing Program.

  • Participate in training and professional development.

  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development and assessment.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. in English; or graduate degree in a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate credit hours in English.

  • Experience teaching college-level writing; demonstrated excellence in the teaching of writing and knowledge of composition pedagogy preferred.

  • Experience and comfort using classroom technologies, including course management systems.

  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to inclusive pedagogies preferred.
