Position Description
Job Title: Instructor, Non-Regular Rank (part-time)
The Program in Education at Duke University invites applications for a part-time, non-regular rank faculty position (Instructor, #1554) to teach Educational Psychology (EDUC 240) in the 2026-27 academic year. The course explores foundational principles of educational psychology, including human development, cognition, motivation, learning theory, individual differences, and the influence of social, cultural, and environmental factors on learning. The course is taught in-person on Duke’s campus.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach one or more sections of Educational Psychology in accordance with the approved course syllabus and institutional policies.
- Deliver instruction on the principles of developmental, social, and cognitive psychology as they relate to teaching and learning.
- Facilitate student understanding of how individuals learn and develop across educational settings.
- Support and assess structured service-learning experiences in the community.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, discussions, projects, and other assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain regular communication with students through the Canvas learning management system, email, and office hours as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate course records, submit grades by established deadlines, and comply with institutional policies and accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Psychology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, social, and cognitive psychology as applied to education.
- Experience teaching, mentoring, or working with undergraduate students.
- Strong written, interpersonal, and instructional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Teacher Education, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience teaching undergraduate students
- Experience supervising or supporting field experiences, service-learning, or clinical placements.
Duke’s Program in Education offers a minor in education along with two undergraduate teacher preparation programs (Elementary K-6 and Secondary 9-12). At the graduate level, Duke’s MAT program supports candidates pursuing high school licensure in mathematics, general science, English, and social studies. All of Duke’s initial teacher licensure programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Program in Education also supports in-service teachers through an academically/intellectually gifted add-on licensure program.
