Job Summary

This position is an in-person Lab Leader for the Undergraduate Nursing Skills lab primarily serving N226, N225 & N495 and the NACSS.  This leadership role is responsible for maintaining evidence-based educational practices in skills teaching, collaborating with course chairs, adjunct lab faculty and simulation staff to promote a psychologically safe learning environment and adhering to healthcare simulation safety practices.  The Lab Leader will demonstrate clear communication skills, collaboration and expert teaching at the bedside. Weekend coverage may be required depending on the lab schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Update and conduct Initial lab faculty orientation to skills lab – only new faculty (includes physical tour, equipment, orientation to checklists, blackboard shells, Week-to-Week review)
  • Collaborate with teaching faculty and provide coaching and feedback as needed. Able to step in to teach students directly as needed. Engage in role-modeling, leading with daily huddles including simulation staff.
  • Complete lab faculty evaluations
  • Promote student support/engagement: conduct informal rounds, available for students, staff and faculty
  • Monitor student absences: Relay information to clinical coordinator to facilitate make-up day re-scheduling, coordinate with the student and NACSS
  • Support student remediation: If unsuccessful in test out – provide additional practice/coaching and be the re-test faculty, coordinate with NASCC student remediation as needed
  • Engage with learners and collaborate with the course chairs via the learning management system for N225 & N226 Blackboard postings (welcome, reminders, updates, attendance, lab grades [S/U] – lab leaders enter grades)
  • Coordinate CATI/Shadow health (supplemental for online) – students assignments have to be uploaded as the “ticket to lab”, monitor and assess student completion of assignments (grade of 80%), Prep work for the lab practice
  • Proactively communicate with course faculty & chairs – student/faculty issues
  • Maintaining and updating skills/assessments checklists in collaboration with course chairs/faculty
  • Daily pre- huddles (historically with faculty only include staff in future)
  • Preparing materials for lab faculty (schedules, checklists, handouts) * Need another solution for copying – Need to reinvestigate making lab faculty handbooks • Supervise NACSS faculty – complete annual evaluations,
  • Coordinate with Simulation staff on inventory, course planning, reordering of supplies, set-up and healthcare simulation safety principles
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent in Nursing
  • 2+ Years of Experience
  • RN Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSN Preferred
  • Experience with in-person skills teaching, or simulation

Physical Demands

  • Lifting demands ≤ 25lbs
