Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seek to hire a full-time permanent position in our Customized Training and Development Services department starting in fall 2024. The CTDS Department provides training to business’ employees, in many cases, at the business’ location. We are interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and candidates that may be from a less traditional background. College and Division:

The Customized Training and Development Services Department resides in the Technology Applied Science and Public Services Division.  As a division, we are one of four Instructional and Student Support divisions at CCC.  The four divisions are:  Academic Foundations and Connections (AFAC), Arts and Sciences (A&S), Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IEP) and Technology, Applied Science and Public Services (TAPS).  The Technology Applied Science and Public Services Division includes ten departments: Customized Training and Development Services, Small Business Development Center, Workforce Development Services, Community Education, TAPS Grants & Career Pathways, Automotive & Welding Technology, Industrial Technology, Education, Early Childhood Education, Human Services & Criminal Justice, Health Sciences and Apprenticeship, Wildland Fire, Emergency Management & Geographic Information System.

Customized Training and Development Services Department:

The CTDS Department at Clackamas Community College works with businesses and organization to provide workforce training to current employees, including upskilling, corporate training and continuing education to support professional development, licensure, and assist their training needs. CCC offers custom-designed curriculum delivered at flexible times, dates and locations, delivered by area subject matter experts. 

A successful candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, and participatory faculty member with an expertise in the manufacturing and/or machining industry who is excited to teach, support and mentor students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructors shall be responsible for imparting knowledge and developing skills through the instructional process under the direction of the department, the division and the College Administration. In carrying out their responsibilities, instructors shall exercise independent judgment based on adequate knowledge of subject matter, professional goals of subjects taught, teaching strategies, interpersonal relationships, and best practices of teaching and learning.

Instruction & Related Assignments

  • Teaches a variety of classes (lecture and lab) related to industrial technologies, including such disciplines as mechanical, electrical, machining, technology fundamentals and automation, to a diverse student population. 
  • Teaches a variety of classes related to industrial technologies. This could include disciplines such as, mechanical, electrical, machining, technology fundamentals and automation.
  • Works closely with the Customized Training and Development staff to deliver training to incumbent workers based on employer expectations.  This may involve curriculum development or course modification. 
  • Provides project management for delivery of workforce development services to businesses, and writes proposals and contracts for new and ongoing business relationships.
  • Training can occur at any hour or any day of the week.  This may include mornings, afternoons, and evenings with the possibility of some weekends.  Training may occur at a campus or off-campus location, including employer sites; most often within Clackamas County.
  • Be involved with the college community and committee service.
  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes.

  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online.

  • Posts and maintains student office hours.
  • Provides students with course syllabi.
  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required.
  • Participates in assessment activities.
  • Participates in professional development activities to remain current in the assigned discipline.
  • Teaches a variety of industry-related classes (lecture and lab) to a diverse student population.
  • Attends and actively participates in department, division, College meetings and committees.
  • Initiates new business contacts to develop long-term business partnerships, conduct needs assessments to identify training and developmental opportunities, provide project management for delivery of workforce development services to businesses, and write proposal and contracts for new and ongoing business.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of practical work experience in a manufacturing or machining position, plus specialized training or experience. Specialized training may include, but is not limited to, licensed apprenticeship programs, community college associate degree programs related to machining/manufacturing, and/or other professionally certified or licensed training.
  • A professional-level understanding of common manufacturing principles, business acumen, graphical communications and related technical math.
  • Ability to develop and teach lab learning activities using industrial-grade machinery and components. Basic computer skills including use of email, word processors and spreadsheets.

Physical Demands of the Position:

The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc.  Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is usually well-protected, with minimal hazards or obstacles (5-20%). There is little or minimal element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are usually comfortable, with minimal (5-20%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have minimal responsibility for driving.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

Works under the general direction of the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

    Additional Information:

    The successful candidate in this position will work a 9-month contract and be paid for 175 days including six (6) paid holidays, per the Full-Time Faculty Bargaining Agreement. 

    Starting Salary Expectations:

    Initial Salary Placement will be Step 3 ($77,041 annually) per the CCC Full-time Faculty bargaining agreement.

    Benefits:

    • CCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP.  A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049.  CCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
    • CCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at CCC for yourself, domestic partner, and IRS dependents; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. 
    • CCC qualifies as a public employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

    Terms of Employment:

    • All positions at CCC are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
    • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
    • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials from a regionally accredited institution, as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or training/experience deemed to be equivalent by the Department, and the College.
    • Your official transcripts will need to be sent from the Registrar of your degree granting institution within 30-days of your hire.
    • Employees must maintain metro Portland, Oregon or Vancouver, Washington residency as a condition of employment.
    • CCC does not support work visas.
