Description of Work Unit
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering offers a curriculum based in math, science and engineering to give our graduates a well-rounded education with a depth of knowledge that prepares them for the many different engineering opportunities available on graduation. Our graduates go on to work in biotechnology, biomedical, microelectronics, environmental consulting, petroleum, chemical, food, pharmaceutical and other private sector industries and with government agencies. 
 
The mission of the Department is “to educate future leaders in chemical and biological engineering who effectively combine their broad knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology with their engineering analysis and design skills for the creative solution of problems in chemical and biological technology and for the synthesis of innovative processes and products."

Position Summary
The individual in this position will report to the Department Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) and support the educational mission of the CBE Department in providing high-quality instruction in its undergraduate curriculum. They will be appointed in Chemical and Biological Engineering and will provide intellectual leadership and excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in chemical and biological engineering. In addition, they will carry out academic advising duties for the department’s undergraduate students. The individual in this position will teach/co-teach a maximum of six academic courses per year and advise up to 30 undergraduate students. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal upon review.

Required Job Qualifications
• Bachelors of Science in chemical engineering or closely related field; 
• 3 years of engineering design experience;
• Strong written communication skills.
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Non-academic experience in engineering design; 
• Advanced degree in chemical engineering or closely related field; 
• Experience with process simulation software; 
• Teaching experience, whether formal or informal.

Essential Duties

Teach required courses in chemical and biological engineering, specifically the senior design sequence (CBE 451 and 452), and assist as co-instructor for the laboratory sequence (CBE 333 and 443). These are the senior design sequence and unit operations laboratory sequence, respectively

Provide academic advising each semester to approximately 30 undergraduate students; 
Mentor undergraduate students in professional development activities associated with senior design;
