Job Summary:

Position Title: Instructor/Assistant Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands
Nature of Position: Langston University is seeking a full-time Instructor of Music and Assistant Director of Bands in the Department of Music. The starting date will be Fall 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities: The faculty member must be prepared to fulfill the responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service to the university. The faculty member will teach a minimum of 12 hours per semester in Music courses and provide mentorship and academic advising to undergraduate students. The faculty member should be skilled in the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning. The faculty member must teach marching band drill techniques and either jazz band, pep band, or concert band techniques. The faculty member will actively recruit student musicians to help strengthen the department's music and band programs. The faculty member will also participate in departmental, school, and university projects and committees. The faculty member will play an active role in shaping the future of the music department and university band program through departmental planning and development.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Qualifications: A Ph.D. or D.M.A in music, music performance, music education, or a similar area with appropriate music concentration and expertise in lower brass or F horn techniques from a regionally or nationally accredited university is preferred however, a Master's degree and ABD degree candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. College teaching experience preferred. The preferred candidate will specialize in either lower brass or F horn teaching and techniques. The preferred candidate will be responsible for writing music at a collegiate level and designing, teaching, and executing marching band drill/field show performances. The preferred candidate must have the ability to demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom and must be willing and able to use technology relevant to specifically assigned courses.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
