The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience within their area of content expertise. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience. Faculty responsibilities will be primarily teaching, student advisement, and University and professional service, though Faculty will be expected to produce disseminable scholarly work in accordance with professional and college guidelines. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • To be considered for the assistant professor position:
    • The candidate would need to have an earned DPT degree  or masters/bachelors’ PT degree AND Academic doctorate  in a related field
  • To be considered for the instructor position,
    • The candidate would need to have an earned DPT degree
  •    Evidence of teaching experience and content expertise
  •    Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  •    Current physical therapy license and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Tennessee
  •    Three years of clinical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  •   Evidence of academic teaching experience at the university level
  •   Minimum of 5 years clinical experience
  • Record of scholarly activity
  • Evidence of leadership in a professional organization at a state or national level
  • Board specialty or clinical certification in physical therapy content area
  • Evidence of leadership or administration in clinical practice

The Department of Physical Therapy
The mission of the Department of Physical Therapy (http://www.uthsc.edu/health-professions/physical-therapy/index.php) is to serve the public with a focus on the citizens of Tennessee and the region by preparing qualified practitioners and engaging in clinical care, service, and research. UTHSC DPT prepares outstanding clinicians, as seen in excellent employment and National Physical Therapy Examination passing rates. Faculty are experts in their field and all contribute to the mission of the Department. The Department has enacted a Strategic Plan to improve scholarly and clinical achievements, including the development of the Human Performance Clinical and Research Laboratory. The Department also houses the Movement Science Laboratory and has affiliated faculty in the UTHSC Neuroscience Institute and Department of Preventive Medicine and others that study in the Muscle Biology and Sarcopenia Laboratory and Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory. Clinical opportunities are also available in the Department’s clinical practice or through community organizations.

The College of Health Professions
The College of Health Professions (https://www.uthsc.edu/health-professions/about/index.php) serves as the administrative home for allied health programs offered through the Departments of Audiology and Speech Pathology, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The College also houses a research arm, the Division of Rehabilitation Sciences (https://www.uthsc.edu/health-professions/research/rehabilitation-sciences.php), and includes the Muscle Biology and Sarcopenia Laboratory, the Muscle and Neural Laboratory, the Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory, the Human Performance Clinical and Research Laboratory, and the Movement Science Laboratory.
