Description

 

The Department of Languages and Cultures  in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking a full time Instructor of American Sign Language to teach the full range of courses in the American Sign Language Program and Minor , contribute to the ongoing development of the current program and participate in the creation of the planned BA in Deaf Studies/American Sign Language. The typical workload will be 95% teaching, 5% service. The teaching load will include 12 credit hours per semester (typically means three courses). Service expectations include attending and participating in program and departmental meetings and initiatives.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $42,000-$42,230

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA in American Sign Language or closely related field.

  • 1 year or more fulltime equivalent teaching ASL at the postsecondary level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Near Native Competence in ASL.

  • Experience teaching advanced level courses in Deaf Culture, Literature and Linguistics.

  • Interest in developing courses with a view to a proposed new major in Deaf Culture/ASL.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required move. Employee may occasionally be required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
