The Center for Simulation & Innovation (CSI) at the UArizona, College of Medicine - Phoenix is a multi-disciplinary experiential learning center that mirrors in-hospital acute care settings. The College of Medicine - Phoenix is now accepting applications for a Simulation Support Technician at the CSI. This position reports to the Senior Simulation Technician. The successful candidate will embrace technology end will work closely with and providing excellent service to team members, faculty, students and clients. The Simulation Support Technician will prepare, maintain and repair CSI equipment, high fidelity patient simulators (mannequins) and associated computers/software, clinical task trainers, and varied technologies related to simulation learning. Support is also provided on departmental specific databases, web sites, and related multimedia peripherals.

The Sim Support Technician will stage, set-up and tear down support for assigned events and will also participate directly in assigned high fidelity events as a Simulation Operator, operating mannequins behind the glass during live or virtual events. The Sim Technician will also support members of the CSI full and part time team, as well as various faculty, students, clients, staff and members of the community as a resource during the planning and running of simulation sessions.  Simulation events are scheduled largely during business hours, occasionally requiring extended hours during the week with a few events during the year on Saturday.

Duties & Responsibilities

Live Simulation Event Support:

  • Ensures all equipment is setup and working correctly prior to and during simulation training sessions.
  • Performs pre-simulation activities including programming patient scenarios and digital video recording.
  • Supports faculty, staff and students and operates and maintains high fidelity mannequins and clinical equipment (ultrasound machines, etc.).
  • Stages, sets up and tears down high- and low-fidelity simulation events. This includes skills stations, task trainers and all related supplies, including some mannequin moulage.
  • Participates  interactively in high fidelity events as a Simulation Operator, operating mannequins behind the glass during live or virtual events.
  • Communicates with faculty, staff and students using prescribed simulation and scenario best practices.

Technical Maintenance, Inventory and Repair:

  • Conducts ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing.
  • Interfaces with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems
  • Maintains accurate inventory of supplies and equipment as needed for simulation.   
  • Integrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots the computers and audio/video (A/V) technology.

Subject Matter Expert:

  • Supports the simulation team, faculty and users of the Center as a technical subject matter expert on simulation and related technologies. 
  • Orients learners and facilitators to the Simulation Center including the use of environment, mannequins, equipment, supplies.
  • Explains use of equipment and simulation technologies and best practices to CSI staff, faculty, students, community members. Will periodically train others on equipment.
  • Provides recommendations for budget, purchase, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and materials related to simulation.
  • Acts as a key point of contact for simulation equipment and resolves requests pertaining to equipment, and training scenarios.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. (i.e. Mannequin, task trainers and supply boxes)
  • Frequently bends/stoops, climbs stairs, kneels, balances, reaches above shoulder height, walks, and twists.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is typically required.
Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with vendors, co-workers and customers to help troubleshoot, test and resolve complex technical issues (hardware and software)

• Previous experience managing complex technical details, communicating and training technical concepts to non-technical staff.

• Previous experience working concurrently on several projects while maintaining details and meeting deadlines.

• Experience in analysis, implementation, maintenance, documentation and evaluation of technical solutions.
