Instructional Support Assistant, Blood Bank (per diem)


 

 

Position Summary

 

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Instructional Support Assistant in the Blood Bank in the Department of Laboratories is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population.The incumbent will maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and conducts oneself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel.  Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.  This position will support Blood Bank functions that include quality control, quality assurance, inventory control and equipment maintenance, sample accessioning, and blood/blood product issuing.   Reports to the Blood Bank Laboratory Associate Technical Director.

 

 

Duties of a TH Instructional Support Assistant in the Blood Bank in the  Department of Laboratories may include the following but are not limited to:

  • The new Incumbent will assists in the regulatory mandated inventory control process. All issues related to the lot numbers, shipments and reagent expiration dates will be promptly brought to the attention of the SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, the Incumbent will accession incoming samples.
  • Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, the Incumbent will issue blood/blood products.
  • Will be responsible in cleaning and periodic maintenance of laboratory equipment in accordance to safety regulations as per established procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Maintains records of laboratory reports, such as temperature charts, eye washes and maintenance logs per regulatory standards. 

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:   Associate's degree or equivalent college credits.  Currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Two years of college credits in Healthcare related fields.  Experience in a Healthcare setting.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). 

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. 

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
