The College of Education seeks a highly motivated individual for the Instructional Specialist III position to play a pivotal role in enhancing the academic experience for our students. This position offers a unique blend of technology, creativity, and education, making every day an opportunity to create dynamic learning experiences and enable innovative teaching. The Instructional Specialist III requires expertise in instructional design models, proficiency in LMS software like Desire2Learn, and knowledge of emerging educational technologies. They will work directly with faculty to provide course design consultations, author engaging learning activities, and map course content and assessments to academic and program objectives.

Additionally, the Instructional Support Specialist III will support hybrid classes and instructional events, providing hands-on operation of video and telepresence equipment to ensure an equitable and engaging experience for all learners. Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support faculty by designing and implementing engaging courses within the campus-wide learning management system
  • Provide effective pedagogical consulting and design support to faculty, with the support of the senior instructional designer 
  • Create activities and assessments for courses that are part of a larger program or degree
  • Monitor and respond to instructional support requests via the College’s ticket-based support system
  • Process one-off, high-priority tasks that are unplanned as part of the instructional support requests
  • Implement, at the instructor's direction, all aspects of a course's content, assessments, and learning activities in the learning management system
  • Reorganize content to better meet needs of the students
  • Develop the schedule and assign student instructional support staff to meet the weekly needs for classes and events
  • Operate video and telepresence equipment for complex academic and instructional activities
  • Manage the inventory of check-out equipment, including updates and repairs as needed
  • All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various instructional design models
  • Ability to apply instructional design models for curriculum development and course creation
  • Proficient in LMS software (e.g., Desire2Learn) for course implementation and management
  • Knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies 
  • Ability to use current and emerging educational technologies to enhance learning
  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and provide a fix or workaround for technological issues with minimum lost class time
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain and repair instructional equipment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Organizational skills 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in education or related field
