Instructional Lab Supervisor (Indianapolis)

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Instructional Lab Supervisor will be the instruction and implementation of instructional laboratory courses for the Weldon School of BME in Indianapolis. This includes sophomore and junior-level instructional lab courses, as well as the Junior and Senior Design courses.  The Lab Supervisor will order, store, and maintain laboratory materials, equipment, and specimens, including live cultures.  This includes both mammalian and bacterial cell cultures. The Lab Supervisor will also maintain all laboratory spaces and equipment in a clean, safe, and functional condition.
Additionally, the Lab Supervisor will assist faculty in curriculum development, laboratory protocol testing, and written manual preparation.  This position will supervise and train both graduate and undergraduate level laboratory teaching assistants in course and safety protocols, oversee course grading, and will maintain course documentation for ABET accreditation.

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:    
Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering 
  • One (1) year of teaching or research experience within engineering or science
  • Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered

 

Preferred:  

  • Master’s degree in biomedical engineering
  • Instructional experience within academia
  • Experience preparing educational materials such as lesson plans, texts, and demonstration aids                    

 

Skills:    
Required:

  • Strong public speaking skills with ability to teach and work with faculty, staff, and students with various cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Basic laboratory skills and training with knowledge of various types of bioanalytical instrumentation, diagnostic biological and medical equipment
  • Assessment and evaluation skills, including the ability to create assessment tools to collect, compile and evaluate assessment data
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of cell biology, cell and fluid mechanics, anatomy and physiology, electrical activity and mass transport of physiological and biological systems
  • Basic CAD and 3D Printing skills
  • Understanding of circuit design and basic electronics
