Description

The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin seeks an Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory undergraduate statistics with an emphasis on new approaches that go beyond traditional parametric tests and include practical approaches to visualizing and analyzing real world data. In addition to undergraduate courses, the candidate will also be able to teach and advise graduate students at the introductory and advanced levels. This is a non-tenured appointment subject to regular renewal, contingent on performance, available funding, and programmatic need. Although the initial term of appointment is for one year, this position is designed to be long-term and continuing, with eventual extension to multi-year contracts, themselves expected to be renewed on a continual basis.


Qualifications

PhD in Psychology or other related social and natural science fields. Expertise in modern research methods and analytics used in the social and behavioral sciences. Proficiency with R/RStudio. Candidates must also demonstrate expertise in one or more of these analytic areas: mixed effects modeling; Bayesian statistics; structural equation modeling; machine learning (e.g. random forests, elastic net, ect); text mining and web scraping, wrangling large publicly available datasets; analysis of intensive longitudinal data, including data derived from experience sampling, monitoring of physiological function, or ambient environmental data; expertise in Python, or other programing languages for data science; or familiarity with open source and open science approaches to the behavioral sciences, including method to ensure reproducibility of analysis.
