The College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) at The Ohio State University is looking for an Instructional Designer to support the Academic Technology team within the Office of Information Technology.
About the Office of Information Technology
The Office of Information Technology is responsible for the creation and delivery of IT Services to the College of Education and Human Ecology. With a broad range of expertise, OIT delivers Client Computing, Infrastructure, Instructional Design, Multimedia Production, and Web services. The team prides itself on delivering customer centered IT services that contribute to the colleges’ mission.
As part of the Academic Technology team within the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE), the Instructional Designer works with instructors and staff within the college to support high-quality learning spaces, course design, training initiatives, and innovative instructional strategies. This positions partners with instructors and subject matter experts to identify curricular and design needs. The selected candidate will assist with aligning learning objects and course assessments based upon effective learning activities and materials. The Instructional Designer will leverage university supported learning management systems to assist in the development of activities and course structure. Further, the role will identify, recommend, and implement instructor trainings which highlight possible educational technology integrations into the learning management system.
The Instructional Designer assists with the creation of multimedia for learning which includes but is not limited to narrated presentations, screencasts, explainer and animation video, data visualization, infographics, animated GIFs, and course banners, icons, and other graphics. Designs and delivers workshops and consultations in support of effective teaching, course design, adoption and use of LMS, integrating technology tools, and more.
Finally, the Instructional Designer will network and engage with other EHE departments and staff, university groups and initiatives, as well as outside professional organizations to improve the course design process and EHE learning spaces. This position will seek out and evaluate new technologies, and build strategic partnerships in alignment with the EHE OIT mission and strategy.
This position will work closely with the Director of Academic Technology and EHE faculty to facilitate the development of online courses, modules and learning objects. This also includes close collaboration with the EHE multimedia team. It is a customer focused position in which the successful applicant must be capable of adjusting to changes on the fly while still maintaining good instructional design practices. The position is currently located in RA245 but will be relocated as part of the EHE OIT move to Arps hall in mid 2019.
Performance Objectives In the first 60 to 90 days of employment, the successful candidate for this position will accomplish the following:
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of college and university policies and procedures
• Establish pivotal relationships within the college and across the college’s instructors and subject matter experts
• Conduct a review of current Academic Technology processes, workshops, and related technology tools and begin to identify curricular and design needs
• Develop an understanding of the tools used to create the various multimedia tools used for learning purposes
A long-term goal of this role is to seek out and evaluate new technologies to support and expand the Academic Technology team’s capabilities.
