Primary Purpose
Provide instructional design support and teach hybrid and online courses and programs to be delivered both domestically and internationally. This position will work with subject matter experts to design, develop and deliver programs and courses that include best practices for academic and training formats integrating multiple technologies and incorporating multimedia and interactive communication technologies.
Essential Functions
  • Instructional Design Support for Online and Hybrid Courses and Programs:
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts, develops level appropriate student learning objectives.
    • Assist instructors with developing assessment rubrics.
    • Integrate online and hybrid teaching and learning best practices.
    • Create course development guidelines.
    • Engage in ongoing continuous improvement of previously created materials.
    • Develop instructional & interactive content.
    • Design user interface using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Academic Program Support and Professional Development/Continuing Education:
    • Work with faculty and other subject matter experts to implement courses within online/hybrid programs.
    • Design teaching resources, online tutorials, other learning objects.
    • Provide training sessions to faculty.
    • Provide faculty and departmental consultations as appropriate.
    • Assist faculty adoption and use of the learning management system.
    • Assist with the development of training materials and analysis of new technologies.
  • Online and Hybrid Teaching:
    • Teach and/or co-teach online and hybrid continuing education courses through University as needed.
    • Teach up to 6 credit units (2 courses) per year for teachers and/or adult learners.
    • Fulfill all Benerd College teaching requirements and obligations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director:
    • Engage in ongoing professional development and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Must demonstrate ability to perform the job through knowledge gained through course work, teaching assistantship, or portfolio of projects in developing instructional & interactive content and designing user interface using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, multimedia education, education with online teaching emphasis, or educational technology.
    • Three (3) years of experience in online instructional design including instructional content, learning activities, multimedia, the integration of interactive, online technologies for synchronous and asynchronous communication in both face-to-face and online instruction at the university or comparable level.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Doctoral degree.
    • Experience with instructional content, learning activities, multimedia, the integration of interactive, online technologies for synchronous and asynchronous communication in both face-to-face and online instruction at the university or comparable level desired.
    • Experience working within the Canvas Learning Management System or related systems.
    • Experience with Project Management.
    • Quality Matters and/or QLT experience and certification.

    Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
    • Knowledge of instructional design theories, pedagogical methods, and online/hybrid teaching strategies.
    • Familiarity with accessibility guidelines and copyright laws.
    • Demonstrated ability using academic technology teaching strategies, such as: instant messaging, discussions, web conferencing, blogs, podcasting, wikis, social networking/media, surveys, exams, mobile learning and assignments.
    • Ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal, leadership, teamwork and organizational skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience designing and delivering programs and courses leading multiple, simultaneous course development projects.
    • Experience working with adult learner programs in a professional and continuing education environment.
    • Experience with eLearning software (Articulate/Captivate/Camtasia).Ability to explain instructions, policies, and procedures and to present findings and conclusions clearly and concisely to all varying stakeholders within the University.
