Position Summary:
 
The Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute (SSIHI) is a part of the Susan and Henry College of Health Sciences. The Samueli Institute works to transform healthcare through the practice of integrative health by conducting rigorous research, promoting evidence-based treatment modalities, educating the public on well-being practices, providing individualized, patient-centered clinical care and providing services to the community that focus on obtaining optimal health
 
Uses advanced technical skills related to learning management systems, multimedia design, assessment systems, communication tools, streaming media platforms, and multimedia creative applications to meet unique and often "new" requirements related to online course design and development. Analysis of project requirements requires in-depth evaluation and understanding of learning goals, perhaps woven through a series of courses, and how technology tools facilitate creation of content and management of data related to behavior and performance. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel and has an exceptional command of communications that represents the organization. May assume responsibility for a program of courses offered at a university or with university affiliates. Provides guidance to other instructional designers, particularly across campus partnerships. • At Direction of the Fellowship Program Director, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for the virtual learning experience of those enrolled in the Fellowship Program. The Instructional Designer will work with the faculty director and leadership time to manage, build, and engage online learning activities for the fellows. • The Instructional Designer will apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods to make content interactive and engaging. • The Instructional Designer will also manage the structure and lay-out of the entire course on the Canvas site, while identifying opportunities that will improve and enhance the overall student experience and accessibility. • The Instructional Designer will also review assignment types and current grading systems to develop assessment instruments, visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product. • The Instructional Designer will create and document supporting and necessary material or media for the program. • The Instructional Designer will also support the program leadership and faculty directors by creating PowerPoints, visual aids, and workflows. • The Instructional Designer will be required to meet the demanding timeline and launch of the Fellowship which is in the unique and emerging field of integrative medicine.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $81,900.00 - $150,500.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $81,900.00 - $150,500.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
 
  • 3 or more years of experience in building online modules for higher or graduate education. 
  • Expertise on building content, advising faculty, creating workflows, and enhancing student and faculty experience in Canvas. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical fellowship programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organizational and problem-solving skills. 
  • Advanced analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills. 
  • Advanced knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development. 
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning. 
  • Thorough knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
     

Preferred:
 
  • Advanced understanding of business strategies and market priorities related to online learning and achievement of organizational goals. 
  • Advanced knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems and content creation tools. 
  • Advanced knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies in creative ways. 
  • Advanced knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.). 
  • Expert level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
