INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER - (T198334)

Description

 

Under minimal supervision, responsible for the design, development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation/assessment of online courses for employees. Interfaces with various UAB departments regarding training content and tracking of training records. Adheres to all UAB policies for training. May interact or partner with other universities/institutions to gain knowledge about their training programs, standards and best practices. May serve in the role of help desk contact if a department or AskIT is unable to assist the student with issues concerning course registration, course content, etc. Directs students to appropriate person or website for assistance as necessary.

1. Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.

2. Work with Subject Matter Experts to identify the target audience's training needs.

3. Develop instructional end goals and create content that matches them.

4. Visualize and create instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product.

5. Create supporting material and/or media (audio, video, simulations, role-plays, job aids, games, etc.)

6. Decide on the criteria used to judge learners' performance and develop evaluation tools.

7. Maintain project documentation and course folders.

8. Provides help-desk and user support services, and will develop and coordinate an team of field trainers who can deliver both group and individual instruction while providing on-site user support.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.

(Annual Salary:  $57,940  -  $65,905)

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in a related field (Educational Technology, Educational Media Design, E-Learning Design) and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

Must possess a contemporary knowledge of instructional design theory and practice along with significant experience in the design and delivery of online courses.

Preferred:

Hard Skills: Knowledge of instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Blooms Taxonomy, etc.), proficiency in learner evaluation and analysis, curriculum design, instructional media design, writing skills, and storytelling, visual layout and design, storyboarding

Technical/software skills: Course building with authoring tools (Articulate preferred), web design, video or audio editing, proficiency in CMS and LMS

Soft Skills: Project management, organization, interpersonal communication, and collaboration
