Primary duties for this Instructional Designer will be to consult with faculty to realize student learning outcomes and course design goals, assist faculty to remain in compliance with approved curricular standards, create resources to be shared with faculty, develop training sessions, collaborate with ASC Technology Services (ASC Tech) academic technology team to ensure full technical support for classes and other college learning initiatives, collaborate with Office of Distance Education eLearning (ODEE)’s instructional design team to ensure consistency and coverage of faculty need, network with Instructional Designers across the university and at peer institutions, and stay up-to-date on college initiatives, university policies, and national trends in distance education.

The team member in this position works with faculty, project managers, and the college distance learning Director to design, develop, and support high quality, learner-centered instructional content for distance learning (synchronous and asynchronous), distance enhanced, and hybrid formats in addition to some Learning Management System (LMS; Canvas) usage and design support suitable for all delivery modes; uses sound pedagogical principles to choose and work with effective learning technologies in the development of instructional materials; plans and manages the workflow of instructional design/development processes; participates as a member of multiple concurrent project teams to plan and develop projects; seeks, tests, and evaluates innovative methods to design and deliver instruction; assists faculty in developing innovative, evidence-based activities and assessments that are aligned with course and program objectives and meet the needs of diverse learners; collaborates with peers and colleagues to promote quality assurance and continuous improvement of instructional content and learning experiences; maintains up-to-date understanding of current trends and new developments in learning technologies through networking and professional development opportunities; reviews new research findings and new knowledge related to learning and cognition, instructional design, and learning technologies and shares evidence from the literature with the college Director of Distance Education, team members, and other stakeholders, including knowledge-sharing of best practices on communications channels managed by the Distance Learning Coordinator; applies theories related to teaching, learning, and cognition, to academic practice; works with the Director to develop and coordinate professional development opportunities in teaching and learning for faculty and staff; occasionally provides technical and pedagogical support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of learning technologies and other IT systems as needed and in coordination with the ASC Tech academic technology team; participates with the Director in strategic planning for educational innovation and learning technology to advance the mission of distance learning development in the College of Arts and Sciences; performs other duties as assigned.

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Two years of relevant experience. Demonstrated skill sets in instructional design and educational delivery methods; demonstrated creative and intentional use of enhanced learning environments, and experience with Windows and Macintosh systems, MS Office, and learning management systems (D2L, Canvas, Blackboard); excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; must be familiar with Universal Design for Learning principles and be able to anticipate and design for student and instructor accessibility needs; must be invested in inclusive learning principles; must be familiar with the Canvas LMS and university-sponsored plug-ins; must have the ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects and track progress in order to provide regular updates to team and Director.

Desired: Master's degree; previous classroom and online teaching experience; knowledge of research based eLearning content authoring, databases, and multimedia applications; interest in designing for ensuring academic integrity. Interest in in-course online community building; interest in designing for a public audience as well as matriculated students; experience teaching at the university level.

The pay range for this job profile is $53,800- $71,700. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
