Instructional Designer, Senior

Job Summary

In this role, you will collaborate with faculty to design and develop online, hybrid and face-to-face courses, and collaborate across Purdue University Online and throughout the university to ensure high quality implementation of credit-bearing and non-credit courses and programs.

 

Senior Instructional Designers may take part in some or all of the following:

  • serve as the primary collaborator with faculty and instructors on course development 
  • participate and lead strategic-level initiatives within Purdue University Online
  • scope the instructional design needs and coordinate the development of curricular mapping and alignment at the program-level
  • work closely with and design courses for Course Production’s partners within the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business
  • act as a facilitator and course designer for CoPILOT: Cohort Program for Innovation and Leadership in Online Teaching, Purdue’s cohort-style course development program

 

This position will pay between $52,200 - $70,000 commensurate with education and experience.

 

This is a hybrid position where you will work some on campus and some remotely.


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field
  • Three (3) years of instructional design experience
  • One (1) year of direct experience working one on one with faculty, instructors, or subject matter experts to design, develop, and support delivery of instruction
  • One (1) year of project management experience within an instructional design context
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

Preferred experience

  • Five (5) or more years of instructional design experience
  • Instructional design experience in higher education, working with university faculty to design and develop online courses
  • Experience designing and delivery faculty professional development in a higher education setting
  • Experience applying universal design for learning, accessibility standards for online learning environments, and assistive technologies used with course design, development and delivery

 

Skills Needed

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Expertise in applying learning theory and pedagogy to develop instructional design strategies
  • Knowledge and application of best practices using technology for teaching and learning, including but not limited to multimedia development, web conferencing, learning management systems, social networking, online collaborative tools, and mobile solutions for education
  • Ability to monitor and report on the course development process
  • Evidence of project leadership

 

What is helpful (Preferred) 

  • Familiarity with applying the Quality Matters rubric to assess online course design
  • Familiarity with copyright laws, creative commons and how to apply them to online content delivery
