The Instructional Designer II, under general supervision, leads and supports the development of classroom, hybrid, or online courses. Plans, develops, and delivers training and development for faculty and/or staff in areas of instructional design, andragogy, and best practices. Leads project work.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education in human resources development or associated field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5 years of professional experience in an academic and/or corporate environment, designing and developing online instruction.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of online course design principles and practices.

  • Proficient document, image, audio, and video manipulation skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere or Camtasia, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and instructional technologies.

  • Ability to conduct course reviews using the Quality Matters rubric or other assessment tools.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Familiarity with copyright laws and creative commons.

  • Strong Project Management skills utilizing tools such as Asana, Microsoft tools, others.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SCORM and other standards for online course delivery.

  • Experience working with closed captioning tools.

  • Experience curating, researching, writing, proofreading, and editing instructional materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan/Develop/Design Course Content: Plans, develops, and delivers training for faculty and/or staff on instructional strategies and course design. Applies Instructional Design models/principles (Backward Design, ADDIE, SAM), and has in-depth understanding of learning theories and instructional design models. Collaborates with instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop, and make recommendations for face to face, online, blended, and web-enhanced courses. Utilizes multimedia tools to develop interactive and engaging instructional resources including eLearning, video, audio, and graphics, using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Camtasia, Mediasite, 3rd party tools in Canvas, etc.

  • Project Management and Administrative Support: Leads and oversees course design for face to face, online, blended, and web-enhanced courses, and development projects. Administers and maintains online development courses/resources. Identifies and recommends the use of instructional strategies, technologies, and applications. Researches and reviews emerging instructional design innovations and trends. Creates and revises instructional materials to ensure quality, inclusiveness, and compliancy to ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.1, and UDL standards for all learners. Performs other duties as assigned.
