Job Description

The Opportunity:

FHSU is continuing to expand our online courses and professional development programs. We are seeking an innovative professional Instructional Designer/E-Learning Developer who can work in a fast paced and collaborative environment. The position provides high-level support to faculty and professional development programs as part of the Teaching Innovation and Learning Technologies team and will create, refine, and maintain high-quality e-learning experiences for the National De-Escalation Training Center online professional development project and related projects as needed. The NDTC training developed by Fort Hays State University will teach law enforcement officers techniques that can help resolve potentially dangerous confrontations. Location: This position allows for the possibility of remote work with expectations for presence on campus as needed.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, or similar fields
  • Proven working experience in instructional design and e-learning experience design

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design frameworks;
  • Proven experience in interpreting learning analytics and data to better inform processes around content, course, and program creation;
  • Candidates must have demonstrated experience developing online courses, translating learning objectives into meaningful learning experiences, and creating a variety of assessments aligning objectives to outcomes;
  • Experience using e-learning authoring tools, such as Articulate 360, Adapt Builder, Adobe Captivate, and ability to storyboard;
  • Proven record of managing a productive work schedule and time management including managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines;
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, professional, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to relate not just with faculty, staff and students, but also with external audiences (e.g., media, vendors, guests, Alumni);
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.

Preferred Qualifications :

Education and Experience:

  • Extensive online learning support experience in higher education

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory, student learning styles and adult learning models;
  • Experience utilizing inclusive teaching approaches to support and encourage engagement from diverse learners;
  • Experience developing in accordance with ADA and Web accessibility guidelines;
  • Experience utilizing Blackboard LMS, Stream LXP, Zoom, Adobe Creative Suite, Adapt Builder, DomiKnow, audio/video editing and production, and/or mobile learning technologies;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HTML and xAPI.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and facilitating e-learning experiences and resources (workshops, online modules, guides, etc.), to educate law enforcement about best practices in de-escalation including, but not limited to:
    • Helping to inform the overall design of the online and hybrid learning experiences including but not limited to graphics, instructional multimedia, accessibility, the user interface and the finished product
    • Applying tested instructional design theories, practices and methods
    • Designing and producing learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and college information needs.
  • Develop and produce reports utilizing data and analysis related to learning experience objectives and outcomes. Work with other TILT members to ensure we have coordinated efforts related to instructional/educational technology adoption and support.
  • Stay abreast of the online design field through professional development and research.
