Position Summary:

AOS Faculty Support works with instructors in a 100 percent online teaching environment. The purpose of this department is to provide support and guidance to faculty members in building their online courses. The Faculty Support Specialist Position will consist of working in a professional setting with faculty and staff members.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consult with faculty regarding the effective use of educational technologies in online, hybrid, and classroom environments with a focus on effective strategies for the use of those technologies to promote a learner-centered educational environment
  • Plan, develop, and deliver face-to-face and online synchronous and asynchronous training courses for educational technologies supported by A-State Online with a focus on effective strategies for the use of those technologies to promote a learner-centered educational environment
  • Provide end-user support (problem solving and troubleshooting) for faculty using the university’s learning management system (Canvas) and other educational technologies supported by A-State Online (such as Turning Technology “clickers,” Blackboard Collaborate, Voice Thread, Zoom, WebEx, etc.) in online, hybrid, and classroom learning environments. Also assist, as needed, the Student Help Desk support staff in resolving student issues/problems with these same technologies
  • Create/program custom learning modules, simulations, and other interactive computer-based activities for use in online/hybrid courses, training, and other various projects
  • Develop comprehensive documentation and support materials for the technologies supported by A-State Online
  • Troubleshoot technical difficulties related to the use of educational technology in online and blended courses
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of new technologies and other special projects
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1. Strong written and communication skills.
2. Experience in administrating learning management systems
3. Working knowledge of office policies and procedures
4. Knowledgeable in copyright policies and legal standards for using materials in an online environment.
Preferred Skills:
1. Experience in administering Blackboard/Canvas
2. Experience in implementing training modules through Adobe Captivate or similar screencast software.


General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

This position has been identified as a telecommuting position. The duties are performed during standard work hours of 8am-5pm at a predefined and approved work location. Individuals filling this role must have dedicated work space that provides privacy and security related to the work being performed. Additionally, individuals must have secure internet access with appropriate upload/download capabilities to perform the duties associated with the position. Individuals in this position will be required to review and acknowledge the Telecommuting Guidelines and Telecommuting Agreement for A-State.


Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an earned Bachelor's Degree.
Other job-related education and or work experience may be substituted.
