Posting Summary
The Senior Instructional Design and Technology Specialist reports to the Director of Instructional Design & Technology at Rutgers-Camden, designing and managing faculty-development and course-improvement projects, providing faculty support to improve the design, development, implementation, and analysis of student-focused, outcomes-based curriculum and instruction for online, on-campus, and hybrid courses. With specialized knowledge of pedagogical theory and instructional technology as applied in complex environments for diverse audiences, the Senior Instructional Design and Technology Specialist serves a leadership role on campus. The Senior Specialist provides administration and support for Rutgers’ course management systems, including Sakai and Canvas. 
 
Responsibilities include oversight and the development and delivery of training opportunities for full- and part-time faculty; the creation and maintenance of faculty support resources; the ongoing support of faculty in selecting and utilizing appropriate instructional software; and the design and development of course structures and materials. The Senior Instructional Design and Technology Specialist conducts research and assessment of current programs and student learning outcomes, contributes to departmental strategic planning, and pursues continuous professional growth. Other duties include serving on University and Rutgers system committees, providing guidance to instructional design staff, managing student workers, and related duties as required.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires Master’s degree and proficiency in instructional and learning theories and their application, plus at least five years of experience supporting the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have experience teaching, preferably in higher education settings, and knowledge of current technologies for instruction. Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs. 
 
Project leadership, from conception, to design, planning, implementation, and assessment is a key requirement for this position. Projects will include an annual regional conference, many campus-wide events, and large-scale technology projects (such as software adoptions, implementations, and migrations). Must be able to provide creative, proactive event development in response to faculty needs. 
 
Must have the ability to design and lead faculty workshops; assess technology and software programs for instructional and other purposes; identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes; effectively demonstrate instructional applications of technologies; effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience; and establish cooperative working relationships. Must be able to manage projects from start to completion and juggle multiple projects at different phases of completion. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to work flexibly and patiently with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in a variety of learning environments are critical requirements of the position. 
 
Requires demonstrated experience with technologies including course management systems, office productivity suites, multimedia production software, web design, content management systems, social media, and varied hardware platforms. Some systems management experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree required, preferably in education-related field. Demonstrated experience with the course management systems required (Sakai and Canvas preferred), plus proven ability to produce multimedia projects and websites necessary. Familiarity with web conferencing, videoconferencing, lecture capture systems, WordPress or other content management systems, modern HTML and CSS useful. Familiarity with Quality Matters or another course analysis system required.
