Instructional Design Manager

The Instructional Design Manager is responsible for the application of instructional theory and adult learning theory to the design and development of courses within each school. The Manager will have a leadership and management role in developing and leading training, managing course development projects, and mentoring new instructional designers and contracted instructional designers. The Manager will assist the Director and SVP for course design and development quality, ensure timely completion of courses for online launch, and coordinate with instructional materials and school deans, subject matter experts, and others to provide high quality design and delivery. Some worker oversight, performance analysis and worker feedback in collaboration with Director is necessary. Clear understanding of budget requirements related to instructional design needs as well as tracking and controlling costs related to the instructional design, development, and modification of courses materials.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with SVPS, School Deans, Chairs, and VPs, on planning, development, and maintenance of program curriculum/courses/content.
  • Designs and delivers training for new instructional designers and contracted designers.
  • Uses LMS and other technology tools to manage instructional design and development efforts.
  • Implements processes, project management tools, standards, and instructional design templates for efficient and consistent design/development of program materials.
  • Develops and delivers training on course guide and course development for subject matter experts.
  • Provides performance feedback for instructional designers and subject matter experts.
  • Supervises instructional design contractors and course developers to ensure compliance with contract deliverables and established standards.
  • Collaborates with design and development team to manage quality of course guides and online materials and provides feedback on the content of online course materials.
  • Ensures course guides adhere to established standards (APA, sequencing, format, writing, grammar, parallel structure, use of rubrics, etc.).

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Education or Instructional Technology (or equivalent, e.g., Education Specialist or Ph.D. in Instructional Technology;

Work Experience:

  • Five or more years of experience in instructional design, curriculum and/or program development in higher education or a related industry.

Job Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and instructional design theories.
  • Proficiency in designing instruction for various delivery media: online, classroom, print, video, etc.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing courses for online delivery.
  • Possess strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and consultation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Must be able to travel  20% of time
  • Must be able to lift  25 lbs
