Job Summary

The LabXchange (LXC) program has an immediate opening for an Instructional Design Lead to create modular, interactive, and inclusive online curricula and teacher training programs, applying data science to real-world challenges. LXC provides valuable digital content to science educators and students across the globe through an online community, and curates and creates digital content that is delivered on a free online platform. Funded by a grant from the Department of Defense (DoD), the Co-Principal Investigators (PIs) are developing a sustainable, long-term solution to raising the level of preparedness for data science careers and national digital literacy broadly. Reporting to the Head of Content, and in close collaboration with the PIs, the Instructional Design Lead works with a team of creatives (illustrators and animators), software developers, and copyeditors to create high-quality interactive content aligned with secondary school standards (e.g., Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Vision and Change, Common Core, etc.)  for publication on the LabXchange platform. Using evidenced-based, student-centered pedagogies, the Instructional Design Lead develops interactive learning experiences that offer learners formative feedback and provide the motivation to keep trying when they are working on something challenging. Under the direction of the Head of Education and Programming, the Instructional Design Lead develops high school-oriented webinars, workshops, and community-based programming, and leads professional development workshops aimed at educators to drive the successful adoption and implementation of the curricular resources. In addition, the Instructional Design Lead provides project management, monitors the grant budget, effectively manages resources, and ensures the timely execution of grant deliverables; maintains project documentation for record-keeping

Please note: This is a grant-funded position with a term end date of 9/12/2025.  There is a possibility of extension based on business needs and funding.

Core Duties

  • Collaborates with the faculty PIs, contributes to the concept, design, and development of online learning experiences; ensures the timely development and implementation of curriculum and project plans, balances existing practices, available resources, and opportunities for innovation
  • Manages the online product lifecycle including market research, learning design, content launch, and reporting for product improvement
  • Develops educator resources to integrate data science with existing high school STEM curricula and build educator capacity to confidently lead students in data science explorations.
  • Works with secondary school educators to ensure alignment of the content curricular standards including NGSS, AP, Common Core
  • Supervise contingent staff
  • Additional duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching at the high school or college level in a STEM discipline, or related experience (Advanced degree may count towards years of related worked experience)

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Teaching in Life Sciences preferred and advanced degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Comfort working in highly matrixed environments.
  • Strong understanding of effective approaches to online teaching and learning.
  • Experience using learning technology tools and project management applications.
  • Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work consistently and constructively in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of data science is a plus.

This is a benefits-eligible term appointment ending 9/12/2025, with the possibility of renewal based on business needs and continued funding.
