Instructional Assistant or Grading Assistant - Computer Science - College of Engineering and Technology

Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as an Instructional Assistant for the traditional ground campus in the College of Engineering and Technology.  Through hands-on, inquiry-based learning, the college provides an outlet for innovation and cross-disciplinary exposure. It also features pre-professional degrees in computer science, information technology, engineering and software development and design programs.

This position is a part-time Teaching Assistant position, you can proceed potentially as an Instructional Assistant or Grading Assistant. The position chosen is going to be based off your qualifications which are provided below.

Qualifications for the Instructional Assistant:

  • You are required to assist on Main Campus (in-person). Must be in Arizona.
  • Minimum completed Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution when you submit your application.
  • Must have sufficient courses in Computer Science as well as having received a grade of B or higher in these courses.

Responsibilities as Instructional Assistant:

  • Keep in communication with your assigned instructor on a regular basis.
  • Stay updated and prepared for the classroom agenda and material.
  • Attend and be ready to assist your instructor in every class.
  • May help with course material prep, grading and lecturing.
  • Hold office hours (minimum 3-4 hours; this counts toward the max of 10 hrs/week) to answer student questions and tutor them.
  • Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. 
  • Assists instruction with in-class activities, including proctoring examinations.
  • Observes students’ performance, and records relevant data to aid instructor in assessing progress
  • Coordinates study groups outside of class to tutor students on class material
  • May facilitate additional ad hoc lectures as a refresher to classroom formal lecture
  • Assists with grading assignments
  • Proctors occasional make up examinations/assignments
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Qualifications for the Grading Assistant:

  • This position is fully online/remote.
  • Minimum completed Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution on date of submitted application.
  • Must have sufficient courses in Computer Science as well as having received a grade of B or higher in these courses.

  • Assist with grading as needed by Instructor  
  • Observes students’ performance and address any concerns with the instructor
  • Keep in communication with your assigned instructor on a regular basis.
  • Stay updated and prepared for the classroom agenda and material.
  • May help with course material prep, grading and lecturing. 
  • Assists instruction with in-class activities, including proctoring examinations.
  • Observes students’ performance, and records relevant data to aid instructor in assessing progress
  • Assists with grading assignments
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
