Position Summary

The Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures is seeking one part-time fixed-term Instructor or Assistant Professor of Korean Language to teach two Korean language courses in the fall semester and one Korean language course in the spring semester beginning August 16, 2024.  Rank is determined by highest degree, with a Master’s degree required for an instructor position and a PhD required for an assistant professor position. All degrees must be conferred by the time of hire. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree or higher in Korean language teaching and learning, linguistics, applied linguistics, foreign language teaching, second language acquisition, Korean language and culture, or related field.
    • Master’s degree required for an instructor position and a PhD required for an assistant professor position.
  • Two to three years' experience teaching Korean language courses to college students in a classroom setting.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Korean and English.
  • Training in proficiency-oriented/communicative language instruction.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching materials, quantitative and qualitative data from teaching evaluations).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in online teaching and/or appropriate technologies in language instruction.

Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to teach Korean language courses from beginning to advanced levels.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in North America. 
  • OPI certification.
  • A strong record of participation in team work and program events.
  • Active involvement in profession.
