Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Innovate Carolina, the brand umbrella for the work of the Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, leads the University in its goal to uncover and unleash the vast innovation potential of faculty, students, staff, alumni and stakeholders. IEED works with leadership across campus to set strategy, provide central services, establish and foster partnerships, and garner resources to support the University’s innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development agenda. UNC-Chapel Hill is generating ground-breaking ideas through research to become a leading fundamental and translational research university. IEED uses a federated model to strengthen the innovation ecosystem that consists of an extensive network of University-facilitated programs. This network of students, faculty and staff are working together to tackle the most challenging problems in North Carolina and the world.
Position Summary
The Office of Innovate Carolina works to strengthen UNC-Chapel Hill’s innovation ecosystem to meet the needs of faculty, students, staff, and community members as they translate their novel ideas into practical benefit for society. Innovate Carolina works with faculty, students, and community partners to launch startup ventures and take technologies to market that make a social and economic impact. This Office collects performance data on related university programs and startups, monitors the overall needs of the university in relation to its innovation agenda, and serves as a community-connected innovation hub that offers a full suite of innovation and entrepreneurship programs and services. Innovate Carolina serves as the primary connector and communications headquarters for this work.
The Innovate Carolina Community Manager will be responsible for managing the operations of UNC’s Innovation Hub, Innovate Carolina Junction. They will be responsible for creating a welcoming environment, building community, and increasing the membership base. The Community Manager will take ownership over the sales process by contacting leads, giving tours, and signing up members. They will oversee one full time staff member and multiple student interns.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Superior oral and written communication skills. 
- Excels at working collaboratively, establishing and maintaining a variety of work relationships with key internal and external individuals and organizations.
- Strong project management skills, ability to handle several projects at once, and flexibility to respond to high priority projects.
- Must have a positive attitude, continuous improvement mindset, and a desire to take ownership
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in business or public administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 2-4 years of experience working in events, retail, customer service, or another customer-facing role
- Demonstrated ability to have a confident but friendly approach to conflict resolution 
- Demonstrated ability to think on your feet to address problems and find creative solutions 
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask, and good attention to detail
- Enjoy collaborating and working with a team 
- Experience with university policies and procedures is a plus
