About the Department
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the university’s teaching, research/administrative space, and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost-effective services to the university, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, and minimize university liabilities and disruptions caused by the university’s maintenance, repair and building, and equipment modifications.
Campus Planning and Strategic Investment (CP) optimize the design and use of campus land, buildings, and infrastructure to support the university’s mission. Through collaborative planning and data-driven analysis, CP ensures financial and environmental stewardship while planning for the university’s current and future needs. The unit is responsible for developing and implementing the university’s physical master plan, site design, space planning, infrastructure planning, and other planning efforts that guide the development of the physical campus. The unit leads the capital planning effort including the biennial Capital Budget Request for appropriated projects guided by the university’s strategic plan, projected enrollment growth, and academic space growth projections. CP coordinates the implementation of the capital improvement plan in the context of the University’s approved physical master plan and is responsible for the campus design, architectural design quality, space planning, analysis, and management.
CP is responsible for Facilities Information System Management. This includes the development and maintenance of databases to track physical campus data used for decision-making, reporting, and benchmarking. It includes space, building condition, building floor plans and maps, architectural and engineering as-built records, survey accurate mapping, utility data, geographic information system development and maintenance, and coordination of access to this information.
Essential Job Duties
Infrastructure Planning and Analysis
The university’s mission depends on the backbone of reliable infrastructure. Ensuring and maintaining reliability depends on the intentional and regular investment in this infrastructure, maintaining and renewing, extending, and modernizing these systems to support the university, its community, and strategic goals both now and in the future.
This position:
  • Under the direction of Infrastructure Planning leadership, collects the data for major infrastructure system asset categories and sub-categories (building climate control systems, building electrical, building envelopes, utilities, roads, etc.) and verifies the data is complete and formatted for inclusion in the asset database.
  • Works as part of the Infrastructure Planning team to collaborate with knowledgeable university staff and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop infrastructure system descriptions and condition data to ensure the record of the capital renewal needs of our major infrastructure systems is accurate, up-to-date, and complete.
  • Works with Facilities Business Systems to input infrastructure system assets into the database test and production environments and to create dashboards and reports to analyze and communicate infrastructure needs for multiple needs and situations.
  • Collaborates with SMEs, and Infrastructure Planning leadership and provides input on the development of the asset condition categories to be used by SMEs for inspections and test infrastructure inspection routines and protocols and ensure scheduled condition inspections are timely and accurate.
  • Work with SMEs to develop and maintain accurate cost models for each asset category and subcategory.

Infrastructure Data Maintenance and Operations
  • Maintains and verifies the accuracy of infrastructure systems in the database as old infrastructure system assets are retired and new assets are added to the inventory. This includes working with Infrastructure Planning leadership, warranty staff, other planners, and subject matter experts (SMEs), to review project record entries as projects are complete as well as reviewing project acceptance letters and other related project documents.
  • Coordinates with various Facilities Division and other university staff to perform a periodic review of the infrastructure system data at a system level.
  • Collaborates with a team of interns to analyze completed projects to extract new asset information and add to the infrastructure inventory.
  • Participates in weekly/monthly meetings with the Infrastructure team communicating needs, and improvements for the overall process.
  • Updates Infrastructure Planning senior staff on weekly plans and tasks as well as communicates efforts needed to consistently improve the Infrastructure planning process.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Institutional Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Technology or a related discipline and two years of facility and space planning experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
  • Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in database use and management
  • Experience in Institutional Facilities computerized Maintenance Management Systems
  • Experience in Integrated Work Management Systems
  • Must be physically able to inspect areas that require standing on ladders and bending to reach low areas
