Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Manager of Technology Services, plan, implement, and provide services that support the use of information technology within the College of Pharmacy. Provide associated administrative, instructional technology and logistic support as required. Work with the central IT support at URI as appropriate. May also serve as technologist on a project team that involves other support staff. Perform duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision and supports the mission of the College of Pharmacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technology support for administrative, research and teaching use of information technology. Provide desktop support services for faculty and staff.
Assist with ensuring that all equipment including video capture/conferencing, AV classroom equipment, human patient simulators, computers equipment associated with research instrumentation remain functional.
Assist faculty in integrating current and emerging technologies into the curriculum instruction, and assessment, to strengthen teaching and learning.
Assist faculty with their integration of technology into the curriculum including Brightspace and Examsoft.
Assist with updating content on the College website and other sites associated with the faculty/staff in the college.
Conduct demonstrations and training sessions in the use of instructional hardware and software.
Participate in projects to integrate new technologies including installing, configuring, and testing new hardware and software.
Assist in the evaluation, specification and procurement of computer hardware and software.
Supervise student staff as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to technical emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
Must be available to work a non-standard schedule in order to fulfill assigned duties and responsibilities.
As part of training, perform functions normally assigned to a Senior Information Technologist, although to a lesser extent.
Maintain a high level of understanding of current developments in the assigned area of responsibility and anticipate future needs.
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and additional experience.
2. Minimum of one year of experience in an Information Technology position OR two years of experience in a position that included a substantial amount (>50%) of Information Technology work OR two years of experience as a student employee providing information technology services.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware.
4. Demonstrated experience in one or more programming languages and/or application packages.
5. Demonstrated experience installing internet applications.
6. Demonstrated experience installing and configuring the operating system.
7. Demonstrated experience installing and configuring application packages.
8. Demonstrated experience installing peripheral hardware and memory.
9. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite in Windows and Macintosh environments.
10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
11. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
12. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
13. Demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules, regulations and standards, and to communicate the interpretation to others.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated teaching experience.
2. Demonstrated experience providing customer service in higher education.
3. Demonstrated experience evaluating products.
4. Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting reports.
