Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Information Security & Identity Management division manages the University’s Information Security Office and Identity Management. The Security Office is responsible for coordinating and ensuring that information security across the University is consistent with industry best practices and the University’s compliance obligations. Identity Management (IdM) identifies individuals within an enterprise or group and defines and controls the access they have to information and resources within a computer network based on their roles and circumstances.
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Information Security Office (ISO) coordinates the institution’s response to cyber risk, operates critical organization-wide security controls, and reports on the state of the security program to leadership and the Board. This security program ensures UNC-CH’s compliance with the legal, statutory, regulatory, and compliance obligations of the secure use of technology and secure handling of electronic data covering all aspects of UNC-CH’s mission. 
This position will work directly with the institution’s Chief Information Security Officer to translate security program strategy into operational reality. Working with leaders of all ISO teams, this position will identify objectives and requirements for all existing and proposed new security systems and mechanisms. The position will establish metrics and key performance indicators to assess the efficacy of these security systems and mechanisms, analyze and develop improvement plans for these mechanisms, measure the effect of these plans once implemented, and develop methods to summarize the efficacy of mechanisms to senior University leadership. This position will also have operational responsibility for implementation of several security mechanisms.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Essentials Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Exceptional analytical skills: Track record of clearly identifying business problems, objectives, and desired outcomes. Track record of identifying multiple means to deliver these objectives, analyzing the optimal solution for the given circumstances, and translating the proposal into specific plans and requirements.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills: Demonstrable track record of effective communication with organizational leaders as well as area specialists.
Strong understanding of organizational dynamics, especially those of distributed environments such as a research university.
High level of ownership, and ability to build trust across an organization.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prior experience with risk management principles (any domain, need not be cybersecurity risk management)
Strong interest in cybersecurity
