The School of Information Science (iSchool) at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites applications for an instructor to begin August 16, 2024. We are seeking someone to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The classes are related to programming, data analytics, artificial intelligence, applied data and text mining, and user experience (UX).
Responsibilities:
  • This position has an expected teaching workload of eight courses per academic year.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings.
  • Select service activities may include committee work.


The School of Information Science

The College of Information and Communications is home to two nationally recognized schools, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Information Science. As such, it is one of only a few universities to combine its communications and information science programs, two rapidly evolving — and converging — fields united by a shared belief that information accessibility is the cornerstone of self-governance. Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in information science/systems, informatics, data science, business, computer science, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach students how to derive valuable communication insights from large data sets using today’s data science programming languages (e.g. R/Python).
  • Experience using database systems such as SQL.
  • Experience working in and/or teaching data visualization (Tableau).
  • Experience teaching at the college/university level.
  • Ability to teach via face-to-face, online, or hybrid delivery.
  • The applicant shows potential for teaching effectiveness. Typical indicators include past teaching/course evaluations, a documented history of developed courses/curricula, and/or pedagogical training.
