Administrative Innovation and Technology is part of the Finance, Operations & Administration (FOA) organization and manages a diverse end to end portfolio of technology services essential to the entire UC Davis campus including UC Davis Health System
The DevOps team manages both cloud and on-premise server and database infrastructure while spearheading CI/CD management and overall automation efforts. Their purpose is to streamline software delivery processes, enhance system reliability, and optimize infrastructure performance across diverse environments, ensuring seamless operations and facilitating rapid innovation within the organization.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Systems Operations, Data Services, and System Support for Administrative IT, this role collaborates closely with clients, project managers, QA, development, and operation team leads. Responsibilities include supporting, managing, and enhancing cloud infrastructure, SaaS solutions, and integrations, particularly with the UC Davis Financial system and related systems.
This position guides the direction of cloud infrastructure and technology platforms in AdminIT, aligning with organizational goals and functions.
The role involves direct supervision of the DevOps team within Operations serving FOA. Responsibilities encompass overseeing recruitment, salary adjustments, performance evaluations, providing feedback, and assisting the Operations manager in managing cloud infrastructure, SaaS solutions, supporting technology, and establishing team standards for tooling. The position is also responsible for developing long-term strategies and innovations, identifying risks, and contributing to team priority setting and process analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Position requires extended periods of time at workstation working on a computer.
  • Travel to meetings on and off campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in software development and/or systems administration, providing a strong foundation in understanding both the development and operational aspects of IT environments. Track record of record of successfully leading or supervising teams, showcasing the ability to mentor, motivate, and guide team members toward achieving collective goals.
  • Experience with AWS EC2, VMWare, LDAP, DNS, Active Directory, and Mail.
  • Experience with continuous integration and release management frameworks.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information to various audiences along with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux systems, virtual server technologies, security practices, and IT infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in managing a variety of RDMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Skills in using configuration management tools and programming languages for automation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ year of experience in direct supervision and management responsibilities, including oversight of team performance, HR duties, and fostering professional development within a technical environment.
  • Experience with service management tools like Service-Now and Jira.
  • Experience with financial system concepts and Java web application programming.
  • Experience managing software and infrastructure projects and leading technical teams.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Database performance tuning and optimization skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with a commitment to collaborative work and knowledge sharing.
  • Independent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage priorities and assignments effectively
  • Independently establish priorities and coordinate and complete competing assignments within established time frames.
